PRODUCTS/USAGE

What makes SFuels different/better than similar products?

SFuels product ingredients are selected with your performance in the moment and long term wellness in mind. Our products are low in carbohydrates and gluten-free. SFuels products do not contain any sugar alcohols, artificial flavors or colors.

SFuels products support training your body to use (optimally oxidize) fat and carbohydrate simultaneously allowing you to go longer in your training, your competitive racing and your everyday active lifestyle.

Are SFuels products for weight loss?

SFuels  products are not specifically designed for weight loss, however the combination of low carbohydrates and higher healthy fats supports training your metabolism to use (oxidize) more fats. The addition of more healthy fats, fiber and protein to your diet helps you feel full for longer (improved satiety). This can help prevent overeating and when used as part of a healthy diet combined with regular exercise weight loss can result.

Are the ingredients considered “clean”?

SFuels uses the minimum number of ingredients to produce the desired product. We source high quality ingredients and use all natural colors and flavors. We do not include any high fructose corn syrup or sugar alcohols in the production of SFuels products.

Do SFuels products contain sugar?

SFuels products contain small amounts of sugar that occur naturally in some of  the ingredients we use. For example, in some of our products we use beetroot powder for coloring and this contains a very small amount of carbohydrates -  enough that we are required to list it on the nutrition fact panels. We do not add sugar, high fructose corn syrup or sugar alcohols to any of our products

How much caffeine is used?

Caffeine is only used in our PRIMED products and it is an 80mg measured dose. The caffeine is from a green tea extract. The benefit to using PRIMED products is that the caffeine dose is measured so you can be sure of consistent results (mood/cognitive, or upregulated fat oxidation).

Do your products come in more than one flavor?

Many of our products come in more than one flavor, and some only have one flavor.

  • Life Bars - 1 Flavor
  • PRIMED - 1 Flavor
  • ZONE 2 - 2 Flavors
  • ZONE 4 - 2 Flavors
  • Revival - 2 Flavor
  • ZONE 5 GEL - Unflavored

If you have a flavor you would like to see in one of our product ranges please send it to support@sfuelsgolonger.com and we will be happy to add it to our list for our new product development team.

Are SFuels products made for speical diets (low carb, gluten-free, vegan, or organic?

SFuels products are all gluten free. They support low carbohydrate/high fat diets, the Keto diet, Paleo diets and where possible we use organic ingredients. Not all SFuels products are suitable for a Vegan diet.

Where can i find nutritional info on each product?

Nutritional info/products labels can be found on each product page at www.sfuelsgolonger.com as well as on the packaging.

Will i see results immediately?

Whenever you make a dietary change you always want to see results immediately. It takes our bodies a few weeks to register the changes in our metabolism and to start behaving differently. You should begin to notice improvements in your energy levels and cognitive focus in just a few weeks. Changes in fat oxidation (usage) efficiency can be measured using a Vo2Max substrate test at any exercise physiology service/lab or PNOE(testing) service provider. We have examples of athlete-lifestylers seeing improvements in fat oxidation within the month and improving to 3 X their baseline over a 3 month period.

Can i use the products as needed or do i need to use them consistently?

SFuels products can be used as needed (training- racing season) and they can be used consistently (everyday lifestyle) as part of your dietary approach. The best results will come from a consistent low carbohydrate, higher healthy fat diet where the body is maximizing its fat burning capabilities and using carbohydrates as required.

SFuels products can be used as needed for any dietary approach - even those that are high in carbohydrates, however the amount you need to use will vary. Please refer to the product pages for individual products and the SFuels Optimisation Guide for further details. If you have specific questions please contact us at support@sfuelsgologner.com

What is Highly Branched Cyclic Dextrin and why do you use it?

Highly Branched Cyclic Dextrin(HBCD) is a fast emptying starch (faster than glucose) that moves quickly through the gut and into the muscles providing the carbohydrate required by the body during high intensity training of competition. We recommend using products containing HBCD after the first 30 minutes of intense (HIIT, intervals, tempo etc) exercise or racing.  This approach supports the most rapid triggering of insulin INDEPENDENT glucose transporters in the muscle cells to absorb and utilize glucose while also supporting the simultaneous use of fat for fuel.

How many ounces does the Tacx Shiva Water Bottle hold?

Our Tacx Shiva water bottle holds 25 ounces of fluid.

Can I use SFuels products if I am doing intermittent fasting?

Yes, the SFuels Life Bar is a low carbohydrate, higher fiber, fat and protein snack that can help you extend an intermittent fast.

SFuels ZONE 2 is a balanced electrolyte drink that can support hydration during intermittent fasting.

What dosage of PRIMED should I use to enhance my fat oxidation?

SFuels PRIMED should be used at a dose of 2.5mg -  3mg of caffeine per kilogram of bodyweight in order to enhance fat oxidation. For example if you weigh 75kg, you would beed 187 – 225mg of caffeine (2 – 3 SFuels PRIMED Sachets) to trigger the effect. Typically this is applied to racing situations. The doses can be split with 1 sachet prior to the race and the 2nd / 3rd dose 60 – 90 minutes after race start.

What doses of PRIMED should I use to enhance my focus and reduce my rate of perceived exertion (RPE) while training or racing?

SFuels PRIMED can be used at a dose of 0.5 - 1.0mg  of caffeine per kilogram of body weight to enhance focus and reduce your rate of perceived exertion (RPE). For a 75kg adult one PRIMED sachet would be sufficient.

Can I use a RACE+ Drink Concentrate in my races?

Yes – this is the ideal way to use this product.  A bottle of concentrated RACE+ Drink can be stored on the down tube or behind the seat on your bike or in your running vest or belt. If you are riding you can transfer the concentrate to your front hydration bottle and continue to fill with water from aid stations and additional concentrate as needed. You can also add RACE+ Gel to your fueling plan.

What is the best way to carry my nutrition on the run leg of my triathlon/Ironman?

Race+ Gel Powder is a specially formulated Race + concentrate that can be easily carried and stored in the Race + Gel Bullet system. These bullets are lightweight, fast opening and easy to carry in your race suit/pack. The Race + Gel product and bullet system means you also leave no litter on course during your race. Make your mark on the podium - not the planet!

If the Gel Bullet only holds 66g of carbs and the recommendation is 50G /hr on the bike, how do I store the remaining product?

Typically, athletes will use a combination of hydration fuel (fluids) and edible fuel (bars, gels etc.) in longer distance triathlons, ultras and marathons. While every athlete has their own preference successful SFuels athletes are using the following methods:

- 2-3 serves of Race+ drink/hydration mix per hour, and 1 SFuels LIFE Bar per 2-3hrs of racing

- 2-3 serves of Race+ drink/hydration mix per hour, and 1 serve of SFuels Gel+ per hour

- 2-3 serves of Race+ drink/hydration mix per hour, and 1 aid-station fruit choice (banana etc.) as desired hour

I am training for an IRONMAN – what do you recommend as a nutrition plan?

Every athlete is different and your nutrition plan should be developed and refined during your training for your event. Your final nutrition plan should be tested in a simulated racing event prior to your race and adjustments made as needed.

To help you get started here are some high-level recommendations

KEY TERMS/DEFINITIONS

Medium-Chain Triglycerides (MCTs)

MCT’s or Medium-Chain Triglycerides are fatty acids that contain between 6 - 12 carbon molecules. The MCT used in SFuels products is sourced from Coconut Oil. MCT is used because it is processed differently to LCT or Long chain triglycerides found in foods. MCT is transferred directly to the liver where it can be used for energy.

Fat Oxidation

Fat Oxidation simply refers to the process of breaking down fatty acids. The intake of fat is the process of consumption and the oxidation of fat is the end use conversion into energy.

KETO or Ketogenic

Keto is short for Ketogenic and refers to a diet that is low in carbohydrates and higher in protein and fats. A Ketogenic diet causes the body to break down fats into molecules called Ketones

Ketones

Ketones are the molecules produced by your liver when your body is burning fat for energy.

Ketogenisis

Ketogenisis is a metabolic pathway that produces ketone bodies that are used as an alternative energy source for the body.

Glycogen Sparing Effect

Glycogen sparing refers to the use of non-carbohydrates as a source of energy during exercise so that the depletion of muscle glycogen is delayed. If fat, for example, makes a greater contribution to an athletes efforts during the initial stages of a race, more muscle glycogen will be available in the later stages leading to delayed fatigue (The Oxford Dictionary of Sports Medicine and Science 3rd Edition Micheal Kent).

Time to Exhaustion or TTE

Time to Exhaustion or TTE refers to the amount of time maximum effort can be sustained before fatigue occurs.

Rate of Perceived Exertion or RPE

Rate of Perceived Exertion or RPE is a scale usually from 1 - 10 where you rate the intensity of your exercise on how hard you feel or  perceive your effort to be. https://www.cdc.gov/physicalactivity/basics/measuring/exertion.htm

Anaerobic and Aerobic Exercise

Aerobic exercise is cardiovascular conditioning that strengthens your heart and lungs. Aerobic means with oxygen and aerobic exercise refers to types of exercise fueled by breathing. This type of activity includes repeated continuous movement.

Anaerobic exercise is high intensity exercise that is meant to be short and fast, for example High Intensity Interval Training or HIIT. During this exercise your body doesn't use oxygen to keep your muscles going but rather accesses the energy already stored in your muscles.

What do I do if I have an issue with delivery?

If for any reason your product was damaged during shipment, please let us know! Email us at: support@sfuelsgolonger.com and we’ll sort things out.

How long will my delivery take?

Continental USA orders can be delivered between 3 and 10 days depending on the shipping method selected. Please allow extra time for delivery if there are major weather disruptions or labor disputes or it is peak holiday times.

If you qualify for free shipping it can take between 7 - 10 days for delivery.

For international deliveries DHL and UPS offer the most reliable and quickest delivery times. These can still be disrupted by weather, international incidents and uncertain flight times and you should allow at least 7 days for your order to be delivered.

Economy couriers such as Flat Export, Ascendia, RRD etc give us the opportunity to offer cheaper shipping options. These couriers make use of local mail services within the US and also within the country of delivery. Please be aware that this service is slow - it can take as long as6 - 12 weeks depending on the time for customs clearance. There is also very little tracking available.  We will be unable to provide you with updates on the status of your delivery as the courier does not offer this service in an effort to keep the costs down. If your order is urgent and you want to keep an eye on the progress of your delivery you should use DHL or UPS.

Are their customs fees and other duties payable on International Orders?

Yes, all countries assess imports for local taxes and duties at the rate that is determined by the country the order is delivered to. All taxes and duties are payable by you directly to the courier and SFuels will not be liable for these charges. For International Shipping please include your phone number to facilitate the courier contacting you for payment of fees. Please note that some couriers also charge a handling fee.

How do I change/cancel my order?

We hope we can change your mind but you can cancel any order by emailing us at support@sfuelsgolonger within 1 hour of placing your order.

Who should I contact if my order is not delivered even though the courier says it has been?

The first point of call for all delivery related issues should be your chosen courier.

SFuels is happy to help but we can only provide you with the same information you see on your tracking details.

If your order is marked delivered and you cannot find it we suggest checking with your neighbors and your local post office or UPS office. Sometimes a parcel is marked delivered before it is physically delivered so please wait up to 24 hours before reaching out.  If this does not resolve the issue, please contact us at support@sfuelsgolonger.com

How long does it take for an international order to be delivered by an economy courier - ie Flat Export, Ascendia, RRD?

Depending on the destination, deliveries by economy couriers can take upwards of 8 weeks. This is because they partner with the local postal service in both the USA and the country of delivery in order to offer a lower cost service. Parcels are taken by USPS here in the USA and they are then sent to an international consolidation center in the USA before being combined with other parcels and sent to your country. Once in the country they then need to pass customs clearance before being handed off to the local postal service for the final delivery. This process can and is often delayed. If you need a product urgently and you are located outside of the USA we recommend choosing UPS or DHL as your delivery provider.

Why does the order I shipped with Flat Export, AScendia RRD etc show it has been delivered to an address in the  USA when I am located in another country?

Economy courier services partner with the local postal service in both the USA and the country of delivery in order to offer a lower cost service. Parcels are taken by USPS here in the USA and they are then sent to an international consolidation center in the USA before being combined with other parcels and sent to your country. When the parcel is delivered to the consolidation center in the USA it is marked as delivered. Once it leaves the consolidation center tracking is very limited and it can be weeks before we know where your parcel is.
